Henry County high school lockdown lifted following reports of student with weapon

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Henry County school officials said a lockdown at Woodland High School has been lifted following reports that a student may have had a weapon on campus.

The school is located on Moseley Drive near Stockbridge.

Officials said the lockdown was a precautionary measure so that law enforcement officials could investigate the situation.

“I got the message from her teacher saying they are on a soft lockdown. There is somebody in the high school with maybe a weapon or somethin,” parent Kayla Bembry said.

Officers received reports that someone was on the high school campus with a weapon.

Deputies said they had to take all precautions.

Investigators said students were Air Dropped a picture of someone with their face concealed with a weapon.

On the picture it said, “judgement day.”

Students then alerted school officials and officers were called to the High School. Woodland High School was placed on a hard lockdown, while the middle and elementary schools were placed on a soft lockdown.

“HCSO responded after several reports started circulating.” Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scandrett said. “Currently, no one with a gun has been found or spotted inside or outside of Woodland High School. Students and staff are safe, at this time.”

Parents were directed to go to the Stockbridge Amphitheater parking lot nearby to pick up their kids.

Woodland High School students were being let out on a slow release.

Bembry said this is the second time in the last month that the school has been put on lockdown.

“The last time somebody on campus was walking by with a weapon,” she said.

Investigators are now trying to figure out who Air Dropped the photo.
