Hundreds gather in Atlanta to rally for anti-gun violence laws

ATLANTA — It’s been a little over a week since police say Deion Patterson opened fire inside a doctor’s office at Northside Medical Center.

One woman, Amy St. Pierre died. St. Pierre was a supporter of Mom’s Demand Action Buckhead.

The group hosted a protest Saturday afternoon.

About 200 people gathered at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Virginia Avenue to demand change. They held up signs with the message ‘No thoughts. No prayers. Just action’ and ‘We aren’t trying to take your guns, just make them safe.’

They chanted “Gun Safety now. Gun Safety now.” It was a call for action on Saturday in northeast Atlanta.

Many are speaking out because of the five women shot at Northside Medical Center in Midtown.

“We’re here for common sense gun policy to keep our community safe,” said Sally Woods with Neighbors for Action Atlanta.

Woods said they’re making their voices heard, following the mass shooting in Atlanta.

Several people said what happened in Midtown Atlanta, is not okay, “We’re asking for basic things such as banning assault weapons, secure gun storage and we’re trying to get everyone to feel that they have influence over the issue,” said Woods.

Many of them joined together putting aside their differences and stood as a united front.

“We are continuing to plug in, into all the existing groups that are out there. To bring everyone into this issue and realize that together we can make that change. We are gun-carrying Republicans. We are liberals, we have all of the basics covered. We are here as a collective whole, to say that we’re only voting based on gun safety,” said Sally Woods with Neighbors for Action Atlanta.
