ATLANTA — For many Atlantans, Martin Luther King Day is a day on, not a day off.
Hundreds of volunteers for the organization Hosea Helps are honoring Dr. King’s life and legacy by helping to feed and clothe their neighbors, taking meals to high rises for the elderly and to areas where the homeless are found.
Hosea Helps was founded by prominent civil rights leader Hosea Williams.
Elizabeth Omilami, the daughter of Hosea Williams and head of Hosea Helps, is also spending the holiday getting meals, clothing, and housing aid to those in need.
“Hosea Helps is in the 20th year of celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday through service of others,” Omilami said.
Monday marks the third time in the nearly 40 years since the federal King holiday became law that it coincides with a presidential inauguration.
