Hundreds show up to remember Jovita Moore, walking in support of the National Brain Tumor Society

COBB COUNTY. Ga. — The National Brain Tumor Society hosted its very first 5k fundraiser in Georgia.

It was all made possible because of the overflow of support for Channel 2′s Jovita Moore.

Channel 2′s Justin Carter was out at the Battery in Cobb County where he spoke with Jovita’s family who told him they are grateful for the support.

According to officials with the society, 500 people made a point to get out to the Battery, register, and join the fight to beat brain cancer.

These aren’t just runners and walkers, these are changemakers.

All ages, walks of life, and even familiar faces were at the Battery Saturday morning for a purpose.

David Arons, the CEO of the National Brain Tumor Society is leading the way.

“We have to do something about this, we have to take revenge upon brain tumors with research and better health care,” Arons said. “Just a few thousand dollars helps fund thousands of hours of cancer research at hospitals all over the country.”

Clayton Sharp said he wouldn’t be here without it after he was diagnosed with glioblastoma last year.

“I went to the ER and they did a CT scan and they identified it as a tumor in my brain,” Sharp said.

It’s all worth it for Jovita’s family, especially her son Joshua who finished the race as one of the top runners.

He did it for his mom as did many others who crossed the finish line with Jovita in mind.

“She would probably be like ‘Oh my gosh, this is crazy’.” he said.

“As we’re making our adjustment in life, I know she’s here watching over our children and she’s still in our hearts and our minds and people still support her and love her as you can see from today,” Joshua’s father Sean Griffith said.

All proceeds benefit the National Brain Tumor Society. As of Saturday morning, the society has raised $110,000 and counting.

The hope is to keep it going and come back even bigger next year.
