Increased police presence at Gwinnett high school over threatening email

More than a dozen officers with Gwinnett County Police and Gwinnett County School Police were on hand as students began class at Brookwood High School Wednesday morning, after several teachers and staff, received a threatening email the day before.

While school district spokesperson Sloan Roach would not say what the threat was, a source tells WSB's Sandra Parrish it was to shoot up a school.

"It contained the same message in all the emails and it came from the same email address; it did not target any specific person or individual," says Roach.

She says efforts are being made to find the person responsible.

The school's principal Bo Ford sent an email message to parents notifying them of the increased security:

"As you know safety and security of our students and staff is the top priority for us here at Brookwood. We never take for granted the trust you place in us every day as you share your children with us."

Most students were not aware of the situation until later in the school day when some teachers addressed the email.

"One of my teachers actually said it was a chain letter going around like nationwide," says senior David Schiesser.

Others say they were not too concerned seeing the additional police officers.

Roach says extra school resource officers may be on campus again Thursday, but not to the extent they were on Wednesday.
