Investigation underway after pedestrian was hit, killed by police car in Gwinnett County

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — An investigation is underway after police said a pedestrian was hit and killed by a Gwinnett County police vehicle early Monday morning.

It happened on Beaver Ruin Road around 1 a.m., according to police.

Gwinnett County police said an officer was traveling eastbound on Interstate 85 and Beaver Ruin Road when they hit a man trying to cross the road where there was not a cross walk.

Officials say the officer tried to render aid to help the victim. The victim was rushed to the hospital and later died from his injuries.

The victim’s age and identity will not be released until the next of kin is notified. The officer’s identity was also not released.

Georgia State Patrol has taken over the investigation, according to officials.
