Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is calling for more than $600 million over the next year and a half to help fix Georgia’s troubled Department of Corrections.
The money would go toward hiring more guards, improving pay and training, and making emergency repairs to facilities.
The state has seen a big rise in issues in its prisons including increased drug use, contraband and murders.
The head of the Corrections Department admits the plan may need extra time to pass the legislature.
