Local company invents walls that can help protect people from viruses

ATLANTA — Restaurants and businesses that are still open during the COVID-19 pandemic are finding unique ways to elevate protection for their customers.

Some are doing that by utilizing a locally made product that’s providing protection with new technology for walls.

Jonathan Baltic is the senior Vice President at BrandArmor Technologies in Marietta where they are on a mission to find ways to keep customers and workers safe.

There’s a lot of competition with businesses working to provide an added layer of security during the pandemic, and business is booming for BrandArmor Technologies' SafeWalls product.

What look like colorful murals on walls are just that, plus they have an antimicrobial polymer protection built right in.

“We developed this with an eye towards wall coverings, but we knew that other things could be done with it,” said Baltic.

Not only is it perfect for high traffic areas in businesses and hospitals, but now even restaurants are looking to put SafeWall skins on their tables and countertops.

Freight Kitchen and Tap in Woodstock is doing that now.

“What we’re seeing is a lot of really cool technologies and new ideas and new problems to solve,” said Karen Houghton of Atlanta Tech Village.

It’s the fourth largest tech hub in the country and has installed the SafeWalls technology to protect those who enter the building.

The technology inhibits the growth of microbes, bacteria and viruses on the walls of the highly trafficked corridors while also giving longer life to the art murals.

“We just did a huge investment into our building to ensure the safety of our community and the walls was just a piece of that,” said Houghton.

BrandArmor Technologies said was extremely busy just with the healthcare sector and then the pandemic made most every other business look into how to offer better protection to the public.
