Local football standout favored to win Heisman Trophy

The Heisman Trophy is the biggest individual award in college football, and when it is presented Saturday night, a local prep star is likely to take home the hardware.

Travis Hunter came to Collins Hill High School as a freshman already primed to contribute on both sides of the ball for the Eagles. He did just that and has continued as a two-way star in college, first at Jackson State, and now with the Colorado Buffaloes.

Drew Swick coached Hunter at Collins Hill and says the accolades are well-deserved. Swick also said Hunter is unselfish and cares for others.

Hunter is the favorite among the four Heisman finalists. The ceremony is Saturday night in New York. He has already been named the Associated Press Player of the Year.
