ATLANTA, GA — Ahead of Thursday morning’s annual State of MARTA event, the transit authority unveiled the first of its new fleet of rail cars.
The CQ400 trains from Stradler USA will eventually replace all of MARTA’s currently operating cars.
They feature open gangway designs, upgraded lighting and seating, digital displays, charging stations, improved safety measures, and more.
“We’re looking forward to many more of these units rolling off the assembly line and into service,” MARTA CEO Collie Greenwood said.
The first batch of cars is expected to be deployed later in 2025.
Also announced Thursday, MARTA plans to upgrade all of its faregates in the near future to allow for credit cards, smartphones and smartwatches to be used for entry and payment.
