Folks in metro Atlanta are hit with sticker shock when it comes to rent.

In just a four-year span, the cost to rent shot up 35 percent in Georgia, according to data from the Census Bureau.

It was even higher in metro Atlanta where the Census Bureau reports that rent rates grew at a faster pace in 2023 than any other year since 2011.

It is recommended that renters spend no more than a third of their income on rent. In some counties Dekalb and Clayton, renters are spending 50 percent or more for the roof over their heads.

In Cherokee County rentals average around $1,583 for a one-bedroom rental to $2,995 for a four-bedroom rental. L.

In Forsyth County, the average rent for an apartment is $1,175.

On average, the cost of rent in Fayette County is about $1,624 per month.
