Metro Atlanta high school teacher injured in student attack is still unable to walk

ROCKDALE COUNTY, Ga. — Friends of a teacher who was attacked by a student has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to assist her while she recovers from her injuries. The attack happened Thursday at Heritage High School.

Rockdale County Schools did not identify the teacher, but a GoFundMe has identified her as Tiwana Turner, who has spent 27 years working in education.

During the attack, Turner was thrown to the ground. She is currently hospitalized with knee and leg injuries and is unable to walk.

Turner’s friend, Jean Cannon, the organizer of the campaign, said Turner will not be returning to work anytime soon and will require extensive rehabilitation and therapy.

As of Wednesday morning, almost $6,000 of the $50,000 goal has been raised for the campaign.

Students said the girl was taken to the juvenile detention center after the incident.

Rockdale County School District officials confirm the student has been suspended from school and will be facing criminal charges.
