Metro Atlanta’s pothole problem seems to be getting worse

Potholes are hard to avoid, and when you hit one, it can cause plenty of damage to your car. It’s a problem that has persisted for years, but it seems to be getting worse.

A new AAA survey finds the number of drivers whose vehicle required a pothole repair last year jumped nearly 60% from the year before. Those repairs can cost a fortune with the average price tag is over $400.

AAA’s Garret Townsend says weather is one factor for causing potholes.

“As temperatures fluctuate, and we’ve certainly seen that a lot in Georgia, the roads [they] expand and they contract,” said Townsend.

One way to avoid potholes is to not follow the car in front of you too closely.
