MARIETTA, Ga. — A Cobb County woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for repeated attempts to abduct her own daughter after losing custody.

In a press release issued on Thursday, Cobb District Attorney Flynn Broady said in April 2021, Andrea McCord abducted her then-four-year-old daughter from the home of her father, James Williams, without custody rights. McCord fled with her boyfriend, Custodio Guerra, and was later located with her daughter in Mexico following a two-year search by local and federal authorities.

“This sentence reflects the seriousness of this crime and its lasting impact on the victim and her family,” Broady said in a press release issued on Wednesday. “The safety and well-being of children must always be our top priority, and we are grateful for the tireless efforts of all those involved in bringing justice to this case.”

Broady said the case was investigated by the Smyrna Police Department in collaboration with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the U.S. Marshals.

McCord must serve the entire five years in prison followed by 15 years of probation.
