COBB COUNTY, Ga. — 95.5 WSB’s Jonathan O’Brien is at the scene of an explosion in Cobb County.

Cobb fire officials say around 1 p.m. there was an ‘explosion flash’ at the Candlewood Suites Hotel, which is under construction along Corporate Plaza Parkway.

“Construction workers were on the 5th floor purging the system to light the pilot lights. There was an explosion flash on the 5th floor. Two male patients were transported to nearby hospitals with moderate to severe burns,” Cobb Fire spokesman Ramses Rivas tells WSB Radio.

At least 12 fire trucks were spotted at the scene, and at least two ambulances were seen rushing people away.

Emergency teams tested gas levels at the site and have determined it is safe to re-enter the building.

Fire investigators continue their work on-scene.
