ATLANTA — If you haven’t registered to vote, today is the day to do it -- it’s National Registration Day.
The day is a nonpartisan civic holiday celebrating democracy in America. First observed in 2012, it has quickly gained momentum ever since -- Nearly 3 million voters have registered to vote on the holiday to date.
The deadline to register for the election is Oct. 5, which is two weeks away. You can check your voter registration status here.

How to vote by mail:
You can vote by mail in Georgia by requesting an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots are an option for registered voters who may be traveling, outside the country, serving in the military, or otherwise can’t make it to the polls on Election Day.

Absentee ballots may be requested any time between 180 days prior to the election and the end of the business day on the Friday before Election Day.

Know who’s on the ballot
Before you fill out the ballot or head to the polls, voters should know who is up for election. Most people know the tight race between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, but the election also features political races at the state, county and local level in some places.

In-person voting
Voters registered in Georgia can look up where to vote on the My Voter Page on the Georgia Secretary of State’s website or by contacting your County Board of Registrar’s Office.
On Election Day on Nov. 3, you must vote at your designated polling place. Polling places are open on Election Day from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. If you are in line by 7:00 p.m., you are allowed to cast your ballot.
Early voting
Georgia voters can also vote before Election Day. The early voting period runs from Monday, Oct. 12 to Friday, Oct. 30, but dates and hours may vary based on where you live.
