DeKalb County is expected to unveil its designs for a new animal shelter today.
It comes after complaints about horrid conditions, including rat and roach infestation, as well as black mold in the building.
The Change.Org website says those health hazards, in addition to understaffing, has led to unhealthy animals within the walls of the old facility.
Animal rights groups have been waiting for this day. They've worn red shirts to recent county commission meetings to make a statement.
A shelter advisory board had to decide between four different designs. After making a decision, it will make a recommendation to county leaders.
The new shelter is expected to be built near DeKalb-Peachtree Airport.
