New Labor Commissioner Barbara Rivera Holmes sworn in under the Gold Dome

Bárbara Rivera Holmes becomes the first Latina to hold statewide constitutional office in Georgia.

ATLANTA, GA — Barbara Rivera Holmes will be sworn in under the Gold Dome Friday afternoon as Georgia’s new labor commissioner. 

She becomes the first Latina to serve in a statewide constitutional office.

Governor Kemp appointed Holmes to fill the labor commissioner seat after the death of former commissioner Bruce Thompson.

He died last fall after battling cancer.
