AUBURN — The Bulldogs are continuing to run through the SEC after defeating the Auburn Tigers 34-10 on the road at Jordan Hare Stadium. UGA Quarterback JT Daniels was ruled inactive for consecutive weeks, granting the start to Stetson Bennett. Bennett ended the game throwing for 231 yards, completing 15 out of 21 passes and two TDs thrown.
In the first quarter of the game, Auburn was able to hit the ground running on offense, catching the Bulldogs off guard. The Tigers got down the field on 17 plays, but were forced to kick a field goal after Georgia’s defense made the goal-line stop. In Georgia’s first possession on offense, the Bulldogs were forced to punt after a few stops from Auburn’s defense, giving the ball back to the Tigers at their own 18-yard line. A few plays later the ball was picked off by Nakobe Dean and was brought down at the Auburn 26-yard line. Dean’s pick allowed Georgia to score on a field goal to tie Auburn with 2:25 left in the first quarter. UGA’s defense put the Tigers in another three-and-out situation, granting Georgia the football. A combination of successful downs from the Bulldogs led to Zamir White scoring on a 1-yard run. After Auburn was forced into another three-and-out situation, the Bulldogs responded on a 3-yard pass that resulted in a TD from Bennett to Adonai Mitchell to make the score 17-3.
After halftime, the Bulldogs stuck to their original game plan of running the ball and tiring out the Auburn defense. A few possessions later from both teams, the Bulldogs had received the ball on Auburn’s 40-yard line. The first play of the drive resulted in a 60-yard TD reception from Ladd McConkey thrown by Bennett. After the successful extra point from Jack Podlesny gave the Bulldogs a 24-3 lead. Another TD score from White was able to secure the victory against the Auburn Tigers.
UGA’s Zamir White was the leading rusher for the game, recording 18 carries for 79 yards and two TDs. Kendall Milton was the co-leading rusher on nine carries for 43 yards. Bennett finished with six carries for 41 yards. McConkey led the way for Georgia’s receiving corps, ending the day with five catches for 135 yards and a touchdown.
For the defense, Dan Jackson was the leading tackler among the group with six total and five being solo. Quay Walker was the co-leading tackler for the defense, coming in with five tackles, four being solo and a sack.
Next week, the Bulldogs will be back at Sanford Stadium to take on the Kentucky Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcasted by CBS.
