ATLANTA — A SWAT team executed a search warrant to look for evidence after a man was found shot to death in an open field Monday morning.

Around 7:30 a.m., officers responded to an address on the 500 block of Chappell Road in northwest Atlanta near Maddox Park.

NewsChopper 2 was over Chappell Road Monday afternoon, where there were dozens of law enforcement vehicles including SWAT trucks. Officers appeared to have a home surrounded.

Police were also seen searching a nearby field, with caution tape placed around the scene. Police have not revealed what they are looking for.

The deceased is a Black man between 35 and 40, according to APD. He died at the scene and has not been identified.

The area is near two gas stations and a short distance away from the Bankhead MARTA station.

Officers report that there may have been an argument or fight between the victim and those involved in the incident.

Police would not comment anymore on the situation except to say that it is an active investigation.
