There’s a new drug hitting the streets and authorities want parents and young adults to be aware.
The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office says the latest drug known as Purple Heroin — or Rainbow Fentanyl — has been spreading through the county in recent months.
Rainbow fentanyl consists of pills and powders that come in an array of bright colors, shapes and sizes, resembling sidewalk chalk.
The DEA says it’s an effort by drug traffickers to promote drug addiction among the youth.
Any color, shape or size of fentanyl should be considered extremely dangerous, officials said.
Fentanyl is considered one of the deadliest drug threats facing this country. According to the CDC, 107,622 Americans died of drug overdoses in 2021, with 66% of those deaths related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl.
If you see a colored pill or powered substance or have any information, the authorities ask that you call 911 or Marietta, Cobb, and Smyrna Organized Crime Task Force at 770-590-5520.
