Horror stories about prison inmates who die behind bars and their relatives are never told have one Georgia U.S. Senator taking action.
Democrat Jon Ossoff says there is no law requiring a jail or prison to notify relatives of an inmate who dies or is seriously injured, or ill while behind bars.
Ossoff points to a Georgia woman whose letter to her imprisoned father was sent back to her with a stamp that read, “return to sender-inmate dead.”
So he has a bill in the U.S. Senate that would require family notification in “timely and compassionate way.”
Ossoff says it is all bout human rights.
