A pilot is safe after making an emergency landing in Athens.

Clarke County firefighters were called out to Ben Epps Airport just after 5 a.m. on Tuesday morning for an aircraft in distress.

The pilot told fire crews that the Cessna 337 Skymaster was having trouble with its landing gear. The fire department says the pilot was able to make a belly landing. There is some damage to the plane, but no injuries are reported.
