ATLANTA — Atlanta police and SWAT investigated a suspect who was barricaded inside a car in southwest Atlanta.

Around 7:11 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Metropolitan Parkway SW on a car that was being driven by a known wanted person.

When officers stopped the vehicle, they attempted to take him into custody, however, when they approached the man, they noticed that he was armed.

Authorities said when officers backed away, they hear what sounded like a single gunshot discharge from inside the vehicle.

SWAT is assisting officers in the situation.

Upon further investigation, the suspect appeared to be deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The suspect’s identity has not been released.

The roadway has been reopened.
