‘Pray for a miracle’; Search for missing 4-year-old in Yellow River Park resumes

Yellow River Park Gwinnett County Fire, police, along with DeKalb County Fire and Rescue are searching for a missing 4-year-old boy at Yellow River Park.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County Fire, police, along with DeKalb County Fire and Rescue officials have resumed their search for a 4-year-old who went under at the Yellow River Park and didn’t resurface.

Capt. Ryan McGiboney said calls for help came in around 5:41 p.m. Saturday. Six minutes later, he said first responders showed up to Yellow River Park where a mother said she was visiting with her son. She said she turned her head for a second, and he was gone.

“He was last seen in the water, and his mother witnessed him go under,” said McGiboney.

He said multiple agencies started searching. A team walked the river edge while another crew was in the water on an inflatable boat. At the same time, they used drones and a helicopter to look for the child.

The search resumed Sunday morning.

If the team in the sky does not locate the little boy overnight, Capt. McGiboney said the ground crew will continue searching in the morning. The concern now is that Sunday rain could cause the river to swell and complicate things.

“Say prayers for the family. Say prayers for our crews, We’re going to remain hopeful that this story will have a happy ending. We’re not giving up hope yet,” McGiboney said.
