President Joe Biden formally announced he will run for reelection early Tuesday, posting a video explaining why he wants four more years in the White House.
The video, released on the four-year anniversary of his announcement he was running for election in the 2020 presidential race, set up the 2024 race as a battle against what he has called the “extreme MAGA” faction of the Republican party.
Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours.

The video opens with images of which opened with images of abortion rights activists shouting outside of the U.S. Supreme Court building and rioters at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
“The question we are facing is whether in the years ahead we have more freedom or less freedom. More rights or fewer,” Biden says in voiceover narration. “I know what I want the answer to be and I think you do too. This is not a time to be complacent. That’s why I’m running for reelection.”
