SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — The Sandy Springs Police Department are working with camera company RedSpeed to add new speed cameras in school zones to encourage drivers to slow down.
The new speed cameras will be installed near North Springs High School and Riverwood International Charter School. This comes after police say they have noticed hundreds of motorists speeding during school hours every day.
Police will issue warnings to violators.
Beginning on March 27, citations which includes fines will be issued. Violators will be cited for exceeding the posted speed limit by 11 miles per hour or more, according to Sandy Springs officials.
We are asking the community to please slow down and help keep our students safe.
“Ensuring the safety of students as they walk to and from school is our top priority,” according to Greg Parks, Senior Vice President of RedSpeed. “This program is a proactive measure to protect children and reinforce safe driving in school zones.”
