COBB COUNTY, Ga — The good news keeps coming for Stockbridge native Michael Harris II, as he was announced Friday as National League Rookie of the Month for August.

Harris continued his exceptional rookie season in August, batting .337 with four home runs and 15 RBIs.

The Braves called up their No. 1 prospect Harris on May 28. Harris is the youngest player in the majors, but has done nothing but shine in a starting role for his hometown team since his callup.

Harris grew up in DeKalb and Henry counties and became a star for Stockbridge High School. The Braves drafted Harris out of high school with the no. 98 pick of the 2019 MLB draft.

On Aug. 16, Harris signed an eight-year, $72 million contract extension that will keep him home in Georgia for the long term.

“To be able to put a Braves jersey after being that young and watching for so long, rooting for all the players that have been through the organization, for me to be in this position is kind of crazy,” Harris told Channel 2 sports director Zach Klein after signing the contract.

Harris is considered one of the front runners for NL Rookie of the Year alongside teammate Spencer Strider, who on Thursday set the franchise record with 16 strikeouts.

This is Harris’ second National League Rookie of the Month of the season, as he won the honor in June, his first full month in the big leagues.
