Drivers in College Park on Sunday, beware. Road closures are expected as a tower near the Atlanta airport will be imploded in a controlled demolition this weekend. And, the implosion will only mark the beginning of a larger demolition plan.

The tower of the former Sheraton Hotel located at 1900 Sullivan Road in College Park will be imploded on Sunday. The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport noted that the Department of Aviation will be in charge of the demolition.

The 14-story tower, however, is but one portion of the former hotel’s larger complex. The remaining portions of the former hotel are scheduled to be demolished by November 2021. The tower is scheduled to be imploded at 7:30 a.m.

As part of the demolition, several roads will be at least partially closed off on Sunday. A full list of the road’s affected may be viewed below. All roads are expected to be fully reopened at approximately 11:30 a.m.

  • Airport Blvd at Riverdale Road
  • Sullivan Road at Riverdale Road
  • Sullivan Road at Massachusetts Blvd
  • Riverdale Road will remain open, but flaggers will be placed along the road to provide visibility to passing motorists.
