Man in his 60s shot, killed by SWAT team after police say he threatened officers, roommate with gun

SWAT officers shot and killed a man who police say pointed a gun at them during a domestic call in Gwinnett County.

Gwinnett County police said officers responded around 1 a.m. to a home off Templeton Lane and Templeton Drive in Loganville.

Investigators told Channel 2′s Matt Johnson that an armed man tried to stop his roommate from leaving the home.

Police said when officers arrived, they found the roommate in the driveway and the man with a gun. Investigators later learned that an elderly woman was also still inside the home and officers called in SWAT teams.

Five hours later, investigators said the armed man started to threaten officers and pointed his gun at them in the backyard.

Police said two SWAT officers fired at the suspect around 7:15 a.m. He died at the scene. His name has not been released but police say he is in his 60s.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to take over the investigation, which is the state protocol with shootings involving officers.
