Storm clouds in Alpharetta

A tornado warning has been issued for Gilmer, Pickens and Gordon counties until 5:15 p.m.

Some strong storms were popping up across Georgia Monday afternoon as Tropical Storm Ida moves out of Louisiana and more inland.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brad Nitz says there is a Level 1 out of 5 risk for some areas to see strong to severe storms this week.

Most of Monday will be clear but the rain chances go up tonight and into Tuesday.

We’re timing when the storms could pop up and pass through your neighborhood, on Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

  • The level 1 risk is for counties in western areas of north Georgia and metro Atlanta.
  • Heavy rain and damaging wind gusts are possible with the storms
  • Isolated, brief tornadoes can’t be ruled out

Meanwhile Ida has officially been downgraded from a Category 1 hurricane to a tropical storm as it moves inland.

New Orleans has seen over nine inches of rain and a few cities northwest of it have seen over 15 inches.
