According to a report from CNN, the University of Georgia student that was injured in the attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Eve has been identified.
CNN reported that two 19-year old women that are former students of the Canterbury School in Fort Myers, Fla., and the school named both students.
The Canterbury School states that Elle Eisele, who graduated from the school in 2023, attended the University of Georgia.
The other student was named Steele Idelson
“The Eisele and Idelson families are deeply grateful for the outpouring of thoughts, prayers, and offers of support for our daughters following the tragic attack in New Orleans,” the school stated.. “We are especially thankful for the exceptional care and compassion they are receiving at University Medical Center. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the first responders, whose swift actions may have saved our daughters’ lives. To everyone who has reached out with love and support, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
University of Georgia President Jere W. Morehead issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon on the university’s X account regarding the attack.
“I am deeply saddened by the devastating attack in New Orleans overnight, and I extend my sincere condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this terrible tragedy,” he said.
Morehead also revealed at the time that one of the victims is a UGA student.
“At this point, we have learned that a University of Georgia student was critically injured in the attack and is receiving medical treatment,” Morehead said. “I have spoken to the student’s family and shared my concern, support and well wishes on behalf of the entire UGA community. I would like to express my gratitude to all the first responders who moved so quickly to help those affected by this senseless act of violence, as well as to the medical personnel who are caring for the injured. As we continue to hold the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers, the University will do everything in its power to support those in our community who have been impacted by this unspeakable event.”
