UPDATE: Body of 4-year-old who went underwater in Yellow River recovered

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Officials with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources have confirmed that the body of a 4-year-old who went missing in Yellow River Park was found Sunday morning.

Gwinnett County Fire’s Swift Water Team found the boy’s body in four feet of water at approximately 10:40 a.m.

His body was turned over to the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office for investigation.

Capt. Ryan McGiboney said calls for help came in around 5:41 p.m. Saturday after the boy went underwater and didn’t resurface.

Six minutes later, he said first responders showed up to Yellow River Park where a mother said she was visiting with her son.

She said she turned her head for a second, and he was gone.

“He was last seen in the water, and his mother witnessed him go under,” said McGiboney.

He said multiple agencies started searching Saturday and again on Sunday morning.

A team walked the river edge while another crew was in the water on an inflatable boat.

At the same time, they used drones and a helicopter to look for the child.
