The Varsity president, family escape after fire heavily damages North Fulton home

ROSWELL, Ga. — The family who owns The Varsity escaped a house fire that happened overnight at their Roswell home.

The fire happened late Monday night off Prado Terrace in the Lakeside at Ansley subdivision just before midnight.

Fulton County property records show the house belongs to Gordon Muir, the president of the group that runs the iconic Varsity restaurants. Neighbors also confirmed to Channel 2′s Steve Gehlbach that Muir and his family lives at the home.

Muir’s grandparents founded the original location off Spring Street nearly 95 years ago.

Neighbors called 911 after they spotted smoke and flames coming from the home.

A Roswell fire spokesman said it only took the department minutes to arrive. When firefighters arrived, they said the family already made it out of the home.

Two people had to be treated at the scene. Their injuries were non-life threatening, according to officials.

The home had significant damage with firefighters battling hotspots throughout Tuesday morning. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
