FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an ‘armed and dangerous’ felon after he was on the run for three years.
FCSO said they got a tip that David Hamilton, who was wanted on multiple warrants out of Atlanta, was likely on his way to the Outlet Mall in Dawson County on Monday.
Deputies stationed themselves along GA 400 to intercept and arrest him. When Hamilton spotted the deputies, he led them on a 120-mph chase before deputies conducted a PIT maneuver and cause the SUV to spin out.
Hamilton and his passenger, 36-year-old Alshawnta Strothers, got out of the car, jumped over a fence and ran into a nearby mobile home. Deputies surrounded the area and took Strothers into custody.
A resident alerted them to strange noises under her mobile home. Deputies found Hamilton under the trailer and arrested him.
Deputies found a 9mm handgun on the ground by the SUV and an ounce of marijuana in the center console. Hamilton was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, fleeing or attempting to elude, driving with a suspended license, speeding, reckless driving and obstruction.
Strothers was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felony, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of marijuana and obstruction. Both men were taken to the Fulton County bail and held on no bond.
Hamilton was wanted in connection to a shooting at a Buckhead apartment complex in Nov. 2022. During the arrest, police found a box of cocaine in Hamilton’s possession.
Police arrested Hamilton’s wife, but by that time, Hamilton had disappeared.
Channel 2′s Michael Seiden obtained body camera video of the wild car and then foot chase.
In the video, deputies surround the trailer park property and try to convince Hamilton to come out from where he is hiding under a home.
“Listen, I’m telling you. If you listen, it’s going to go easy,” one officer shouts. “On your belly, on your belly, chill out!”
Hamilton was booked into the Forsyth County jail but is expected to be extradited back to Fulton County where he will face charges connected to the 2020 investigation.
