DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are still searching for the person who shot up a DeKalb County apartment early Thursday morning, and that leaves an injured child’s father uneasy.
A 6-year-old and 7-year-old are still hospitalized after someone shot up their home at the Artesian Village Apartments on Bouldercrest Road. Police say a gunman walked up to the apartment and opened fire.
Jordan Smith says he does not have any enemies, so he doesn’t know who would want the family dead.
“I don’t know who they were trying to target for,” Smith said. “[The suspect] shot through the house probably about 15 to 16 times.”
Washington counted at least 13 bullet holes through windows and the front door.
“I’m not doing fine at all. I’m mad, I’m upset,” Smith said.
He says both children are still hospitalized, but are expected to make a full recovery. His niece was in more serious condition than his son.
“My niece had to have surgery. It hit a tendon in her leg, but she’s ok,” he said.
Smith says police have not yet figured out who the shooter is, but he doesn’t plan to stick around the apartment to find out.
“They haven’t caught the guy yet, and we just don’t want to be sitting here,” he said. “What if he wanted to come back tonight? Who’s to say he’s not going to come back here and shoot tonight?”
Police are combing through security cameras, collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses in an effort to identify the shooter.
