A woman had to be rushed by medical helicopter to Kennestone hospital after she was badly beaten while walking on the Silver Comet Trail Tuesday evening.
Corporal Ashley Henson with the Paulding County Sheriff's Office tells WSB it happened in broad daylight on a busy section of the trail near a train overpass close to the trail-head. A man found the 42-year old woman unconscious on the trail near Academy Drive. Henson says "literally you can see U.S. 278, which is a major 4-lane, from the bridge."
Henson says it does not appear the woman was sexually assaulted. The victim's name has not been released, and no word on her condition. Henson described the woman's injuries as "serious." It's unclear how long she had been there before she was found.
The suspect is only described as a white man with dark hair.
The 911 call came in at 6:42pm. The Paulding County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have seen something suspicious to call them at 770-443-3015.
