Actor Ron Glass has died at the age of 71. Glass was best known for his portrayal of Ron Harris in the long-running sitcom “Barney Miller, which earned him an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Glass was born in Evansville, Indiana. He studied literature and drama at the University of Evanston, and appeared in several popular television series in the 70’s and 80’s, including “All in the Family” and “Sanford and Son.”

Glass also played the role of Felix Unger in a remake of “The Odd Couple”, and Derrial Book the science fiction series “Firefly.”

His other notable acting credits include guest appearances on “CSI”, “The Twilight Zone” and “Hawaii Five-O.”

Glass' agent, Jeffrey Leavett, told The Associated Press that Glass died on Friday of respiratory failure.
