WSB-TV's Carol Sbarge spoke with the baby's 23-year-old mother, who says she feels very frustrated when she sees video of people her age not wearing masks or social distancing.
Lourdes Valencia said that when she got sick in mid-June, she had chills, sweats and a weird headache. The Gwinnett County mother said that by the next day, she had a fever. She then tested positive for the coronavirus.
Valencia said her husband, baby, parents, sisters and cousins all got the virus. Her parents were both admitted to the hospital.
Dr. Barbara Joy Jones, a family medical physician, said it’s hard to predict how the coronavirus will affect someone.
Doctors continue to see different symptoms. The Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently added gastrointestinal symptoms to the list.
Jones said before the addition, she thought someone was having diarrhea or reaction to food, not coronavirus. She said now doctors are seeing that may actually be a symptom of COVID-19. She said some patients quickly switch to having respiratory symptoms.
Lourdes said she always wears a mask in public places and wants more people her age to take the virus seriously.
