A pharmaceutical company that manufactures insulin said it will offer free doses for 90 days to diabetes patients who lost coverage because they lost their job as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Novo Nordisk is offering the benefit through its diabetes patient assistance program, CNN reported.

"Patients have enough issues to worry about at this moment," Doug Langa, president of the pharmaceutical company, said in a statement. "We don't want being able to pay for their insulin to be one of them."

Eligible patients have to show proof of coverage loss or that they are being offered Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act benefits. The company has other programs, including its Immediate Supply option for more help to those who rely on insulin.

Another insulin maker, Eli Lilly, announced earlier this month it they would offer $35 insulin refills to anyone without health insurance, CNN reported.
