Texas woman with dementia lost for 10 days survived on creek water, frogs and minnows

PORTER, Texas — A Texas woman with dementia who went missing for 10 days survived by drinking creek water and eating frogs and minnows, authorities said.

Investigators said 62-year-old Linda Field, of Porter, was reported missing Sept. 17 after she drove away from home in her red Ford Explorer, KTRK reported.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office immediately began searching for Field, along with her daughter, Laura Bereta, the television station reported.

Search crews found Field on Friday, deep in the woods of San Jacinto County after her vehicle was found on a dead end-road, KTRK reported. Officers with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice used a K-9 unit to find the woman.

"I knew I was going to be found," Field told the television station. "It was God's time."

Field was dehydrated but told officials she survived in the woods by drinking water from a creek and by eating frogs and minnows she caught.

Field had a tearful reunion with her daughter.

"Mama wanted to talk to me and I just burst out crying," Bereta told KTRK. "I was glad to finally hear her voice.".
