A man charged in the 2011 murder of his wife in Gwinnett County has been denied bond.
Judge Randy Rich ruled Matthew Leili to be a flight risk and has the potential to influence witnesses, namely his teenage daughters, in the case.
Most of the hearing centered around a YouTube video posted by his daughters this week proclaiming the innocence of their father in the murder of their mother, Nique.
Amanda Leili, 16, testified she made the video with the help of an adult friend. In it, she pointed to evidence in the case that she obtained through her father’s computer. But she says the video was not made at his behest.
“Did your dad tell you what to put in the video,” defense attorney Tom Clegg asked her.
“No,” she responded.
But the teen says her father thought the video was a good idea.
For that reason, prosecutor Lisa Jones pointed that Leili could influence future testimony of his daughters.
She also says Leili and his daughters have been living in a house in Vermont owned by his brother and have no ties to Georgia. The brother is currently living out of the country and Jones fears extradition would be difficult if Leili decided to flee the U.S.
