Police: Witness made up story about Clayton bus sniper

The sniper who was targeting Clayton County school buses is off the streets.

That’s because there never was one in the first place.

Authorities have arrested a one-time witness, because he made up the whole story.

Codarious Brewer, 20, admitted to police that he lied about seeing a man aiming a rifle at school buses on Paladin Drive.

Brewer originally said he saw a sniper perched across the street, aiming at school buses with a rifle about 75 feet away. Brewer said he yelled at the “suspect” who then dropped his gun and ran. Brewer claimed he chased the man until he fired a second gun. Brewer even showed police a bullet hole where the suspect shot at him.

But all of this never happened.

The story put a scare into the Clayton County school system. Police officers were following school buses as they made their rounds in the days after Brewer’s claim.

Brewer was booked into the Clayton County jail overnight and is charged with making a false police report and obstruction.
