A cruel joke at best, someone vandalized a marble statue of Jesus early Easter morning at a Catholic Church in Roswell.

Parishioners at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church saw pink paint on the hands and face of the statue.

“I don’t know why anyone would do this, especially on Easter Sunday,” Michaela Patafio told Channel 2 Action News. “It’s really upsetting.”

The pastor covered other parts of the statue which had also been vandalized. The statue is fairly new, having been donated months ago.

“This paint has gotten inside the marble,” said church deacon Dave Thomasberger. “It’s going to be a little difficult to get out.”

There was no word on any possible suspects in this incident.
