Opponents of new KSU president Sam Olens fight to get the state Board of Regents to rescind his appointment.
His first official day on the job is today. Faculty and students opposed to an Olens administration stage a rally on the Kennesaw State campus green at noon. They also seek a court injunction at a hearing Monday in Fulton County Superior Court.
The Marietta Daily Journal reports attorney Stephen Humphreys argues the Board of Regents did not follow established protocol in choosing Olens. No one else was granted an interview.
His injunction claims the appointment is political to keep KSU from facing criminal investigation and potential prosecution for alleged financial irregularities.
Previous KSU president Dan Papp resigned in May, days before an audit revealed alleged financial violations. Two other KSU employees have since been fired.
The injunction suggests Olens' new position was predicated on not pursuing charges as state attorney general.
Several faculty members file a separate complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's Atlanta office to argue that women and minorities were not considered for the job.
KSU professor Susan Raines tells the Marietta Daily Journal, a complaint will also be filed this week with the accrediting organization, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
Neither the university nor University System of Georgia would comment to the Marietta paper.
