Soldier Killed in Home, Daughter, 15, Charged

The 15-year-old daughter of a soldier, who was found shot dead in her home Thursday, has been charged in connection with the murder.

Karen Moore, 42, was found by a neighbor in a pool of blood in her home after the daughter asked the neighbor to check on her mother, Braselton Assistant Police Chief Lou Solis told News/Talk WSB. The home is on Sahale Falls Drive in the Falls of Braselton subdivision. Investigators told WSB's Richard Sangster, the two were aruging before the shooting, most likley over the daughter's boyfriend. The GBI has been called in to help with the investigation.

“We are doing a joint investigation to make sure we are looking at the same things,” Solis told Channel 2 Action News.

The girl and her boyfriend, Christopher Nieves, 17,  were taken into custody late Thursday. Both were at the shooting scene, police said. WSB’s Jennifer Griffies was at police headquarters while the two were questioned by police early Friday morning. The girl was charged with murder, while the boyfriend was charged with having sex with a minor.

“We are talking to them,” said Solis. “We just want to get the story straight.”

Moore was an activity duty solider in the U.S. Army and was under a recruiter stationed in Georgia. Moore’s husband is also in the military and is serving in Alabama. Mrs. Moore was also preparing to be reassigned to Tennesse.

“(Soldiers) give their lives for freedom in Afghanistan, Iraq, and another parts of the world,” Solid said. “You feel safe in your house. You think you feel safe and something tragic happens and it’s not supposed to happen.”

The two also have a son who is serving in the army.
