A Gwinnett County man is facing a host of charges after leading police on a chase through busy Snellville streets Saturday.
Another motorist called police after he says Omar Martinez hit his car and fled the scene.
Snellville Police Roy Whitehead says that’s when the Lawrenceville man led police on a high speed chase through heavy traffic up and down Scenic Hwy.
“He was going southbound on (Hwy) 124, made illegal turns, got back on the road, (and) he crossed the concrete median three times,” says Snellville Police Chief Roy Whitehead.
Finally after Martinez pulled into a driveway and patrol cars were able to block him in, Whitehead says he refused to get out of the vehicle.
“He refused to cooperate in any way; even when they tried to remove him, he grabbed onto the steering wheel and did everything he could to remain in the vehicle,” Whitehead tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish.
Ultimately, officers used a Taser twice on Martinez who was able to pull out the probes himself.
Martinez faces charges of fleeing the scene of an accident, reckless driving, resisting arrest, and driving on a suspended license.
According to police, it’s the fourth time he’s been charged with driving on a suspended license since 2012.
