SEATTLE — As the holiday shopping season begins, Amazon announced it is adding another way for its customers to pay for purchases.
Amazon announced in a news release that it will be accepting Venmo as a payment method for orders placed on Amazon.com and on its mobile app. The company said “select Amazon customers” would begin seeing the option on Oct. 25, with the feature being available to all users by Black Friday.
“We want to offer customers payment options that are convenient, easy to use, and secure — and there’s no better time for that than the busy holiday season,” said Max Bardon, vice president of Amazon worldwide payments. “Whether it’s paying with cash, buying now and paying later, or paying via Venmo, our goal is to meet the needs and preferences of every Amazon customer.”
To pay using Venmo, users will need to add their Venmo account to their Amazon account as a payment method. Once that’s done, the Venmo account will appear as a payment option during checkout.
“We know that the Venmo community of nearly 90 million users value the safety, security, ease and familiarity that paying with Venmo helps to bring to the checkout experience,” said Doug Bland, senior vice president and general manager, head of consumer, PayPal. “The ability to pay with Venmo on Amazon continues our ongoing commitment to offer the community more ways to spend, send, receive, and manage their money with Venmo.”
Venmo, which is owned by PayPal, is a popular payment service that allows users to not only buy things from vendors, but also send money to each other. The number of retailers accepting Venmo as payment has been steadily increasing, with Shopify and Lululemon also accepting it, CNBC reported.
