TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A Florida couple is behind bars in connection with the apparent drowning death of a toddler, authorities said.
According to WFTV, mother Amanda Paige Davis and her boyfriend, Charner Leon Williams IV, both 30 and of Titusville, are facing aggravated manslaughter charges after 23-month-old Athena Blevins drowned Saturday in a pool at their Knox McRae Drive home, Titusville police said.
Authorities responded to the home Saturday afternoon after the couple’s roommate discovered the unresponsive toddler in the pool, WFTV reported. Titusville Fire Department crews rushed the child to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead, according to the news outlet.
Davis and Williams, who were sleeping at the time of the incident, did not wake until emergency crews arrived, police said.
According to police, investigators later searched the home and found drug paraphernalia that was “easily accessible to the toddler,” WFTV reported. In addition, no safety precautions had been taken to protect the toddler from the pool, road or other hazards, authorities said.
Police arrested Davis and Williams, who were jailed without bond, according to WFTV.
