DELAWARE — The U.S. Department of Justice reportedly found additional classified materials on Friday during a search of President Biden’s house in Delaware.

The Justice Department investigators reportedly on Friday found additional classified materials while conducting a search of President Joe Biden’s house in Wilmington, Delaware, his personal attorney said in a statement obtained by CNN.

Biden’s lawyer, Bob Bauer, said the search was done on Friday and lasted about 13 hours, according to The Associated Press.

Biden and first lady Jill Biden were not home when the search took place, according to the AP.

In a statement obtained by the AP, Bauer reportedly said that the DOJ “took possession of materials it deemed within the scope of its inquiry, including six items consisting of documents with classification markings and surrounding materials, some of which were from the President’s service in the Senate and some of which were from his tenure as Vice President.”

Six items were located in Biden’s house that the DOJ took possession of and contained classification markings, Bauer said, according to the AP.

The DOJ also reportedly took possession of some of Biden’s handwritten notes from when he was Vice Presidential for further review, according to the Washington Post.

It is unclear what exactly the items are or if they are all documents, according to the Washington Post. In an earlier search, Biden’s lawyers said they reportedly found some classified documents in his garage and a nearby room. Those documents were turned over to the DOJ.

Attorney General Merrick Garland last week appointed former Maryland United States Attorney Robert Hur as special counsel, according to the AP. He is expected to investigate any possible “wrongdoing” around the Biden documents.

In May 2021, officials with the National Archives contacted Trump to obtain documents they believed should have been turned over by the former president, The Washington Post reported. The investigation became public months later after officials confirmed that they got 15 boxes of materials from Trump.

Since the former president left office, authorities have recovered about 300 documents with classification markings from Trump, according to The Associated Press.

Last year, Garland appointed a special counsel to review the handling of classified records found at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
